Let’s start today with a pretty big correction. I have pulled my story about period poverty from early this week due to some confusion on my part between two pieces of legislation. My apologies for the mistake.
Speaking of mistakes, don’t make any mistakes during early voting. Unlike early voting in the November 2022 General Election, early voting for the current municipal, school board and propositions will only happen on Thursday and Friday at the Carter County Election Board. If you did early voting last year (or follow Carter Observer on TikTok), you might remember last year’s election was moved to a larger venue and added a third day of voting.
Yesterday’s story about a proposed arena got an update today with confirmation from XTO Energy’s parent company confirming interest in donating land for the project, which is still in early stages.
On Wednesday, The Ardmoreite reported on Sen. Jerry Alvord’s (R-Wilson) appointment to a new state senate committee tasked with investigating statewide business attraction and retention. Later on Wednesday, two senate Democrats released a cautiously optimistic statement regarding the committee’s first meeting.
If you’re going to be driving around Ardmore on Saturday, be careful of a group planning to literally walk around Ardmore. According to their Facebook page, CrystalRock Cathedral will host a nearly 20-mile Prayer Walk beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 1.
